Barbican

This round tower from the 15th century is part of the double-walled Bishop’s Palace. Its construction is connected to the time when Pál Kinizsi, the famous commander, visited the town in 1498. It was built in late Gothic style. Nowadays there are no guards on post, so we can enjoy the nice view of the western part of the city from the bastion.

The function of the Barbican and the small square in front of it has changed and it serves now as the venue of various concerts, festivals and gastronomic events. It is undoubtly a popular place for the tourists as well as the locals. Being the western gate of the historical town (today the edge of the downtown area), it is a perfect meeting point from where you can easily take a walk into the downtown.
